Doug Gottlieb: "I like Dan Campbell. This 'all gas, no brakes' thing sounds really, really good. I can tell you from experience that it is an atrocious idea. I don't care what you do, your starters are your starters for a reason. What are you doing? You did not have to play last night's game to win. Everyone knows that your likelihood of success is made even greater in the playoffs when you have healthy players. What was the win in winning last night? Especially now that you have a short week of prep to go play the Minnesota Vikings. How does that make any sense?"
Dan Beyer: "The part that I don't get is how in the world could this be payback for the Lions? Last year was for a trip to the Super Bowl, this year meant nothing for either side. It's actually one of the glaring things for Nick Sirianni. For all of the dumb stuff that the Eagles Head Coach does, there may have been nothing worse than taunting Chiefs fans after beating them in Kansas City after the Chiefs had beaten them in the Super Bowl the prior year. It wasn't payback, it wasn't revenge. I don't know how you can get revenge for losing the Super Bowl except if you play them in the Super Bowl the next year. This had even less impact than that Chiefs-Eagles game. It meant nothing to both sides. To sit there and say 'they're prideful,' that's garbage. Nobody last night thought revenge, not at all."
Doug Gottlieb and Dan Beyer criticize Dan Campbell and the Detroit Lions for exerting themselves to win a meaningless game ahead of a short week prior to facing off with the Minnesota Vikings to determine the NFC North title and the top seed in the NFC. Doug rips Campbell for putting players at risk ahead of the playoff race, while Dan points out how the notion that the Lions got "revenge" on the 49ers for their playoff exit last year is completely ridiculous.
