Herd Hierarchy: Colin Cowherd Ranks the Top 10 NFL Teams After Week 2

Colin Cowherd Ranks the 10 Best NFL Teams After Week 2 – September 22nd

10. New England Patriots (1-1)

“I’m shocked to say this but I was WRONG. I’m sorry, but you can win a bunch of games this way. Cam Newton has more passing yards and touchdowns than Brady so far. It works. He’s got running backs who can catch, Edelman and N’Keal Harry had 7 catches. That was the third most passing yards ever in a game for Cam, isn’t that bizarre? Belichick has always got defensive players that work, and their secondary is great, but I gotta tell ya, this thing works and is only going to get better. It’s still the best coached team in the NFL and I don’t think Brady could have led them to within one play of beating Seattle. There’s a ceiling here, and I mean at some point you need someone who can at least get open down the field, but this works.”

9. New Orleans Saints (1-1)

“The Saints will get it ‘kind of’ together, but I think this is really troubling: Brees has 160 total air yards this season, which is worst among quarterbacks. It’s very ‘Kirk Cousins.’ You may say it doesn’t matter, and they don’t have Michael Thomas, but what matters is that they faced a Raiders defense that didn’t create a single sack. Brees had plenty of time last night and it was still only him dumping it to his running backs. I get dumping it to your running backs if you’re facing Chris Jones of the Chiefs, or facing San Francisco of last year, but when you have time to throw and you’re still dumping to running backs, you’re not a dangerous offense. They’ve also been heavily penalized this year which they weren’t last year.”

8. Las Vegas Raiders (2-0)

“They’ve got a ton of offensive weapons. Their tight end, wide receiver, and running back groups are fantastic. The offensive line group was missing starters last night and I still thought they got a push. Darren Waller has the second most catches and targets of any player in the NFL this year. They’re one of only 4 teams to score at least 30 points in their first two games. I’ll give it to them. I don’t know how long it lasts, they’re going to New England this weekend, but just in terms of offensive weaponry, they’re fun, they’re fast, they’re athletic, they’re loose, and they’ve got a lot of dudes. A lot of guys can run and a lot of guys were open last night, and New Orleans is a well-coached group with good personnel.”

7. Buffalo Bills (2-0)

“Buffalo has the best young coach arguably in the sport, Sean McDermott, and Josh Allen has benefited greatly because of that. Allen’s first two career 300-yard games are in the books, and the Bills defense is top 5 in yards allowed. It should be noted that they faced the Jets offense, and Miami and Ryan Fitzpatrick, so let’s see what happens when they face the Rams this weekend at home. The Rams offense has got a lot of weapons, and the Bills may scale back a little bit statically, but I think Buffalo is doing it right. I still have to see Josh Allen against good defenses in BIG games, but I can’t deny what I see. Well coached, real defense, and Josh Allen now can play."

6. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (1-1)

“Leonard Fournette is going to get better every game. First of all, what’s not being talked about is their defense. Their defense shut down McCaffrey, and it shut down Alvin Kamara. I don’t trust their special teams, but as we predicted their defense would carry the team in September. Their defense is allowing the fewest yards per rush of any team in the league since the start of last year. Take last year and this year, and this is the best run defense in the NFL, and I’ll put Pittsburgh second. Tampa Bay is just going to keep getting better."
