FedEx Threatening to Pull Stadium Endorsement if Redskins Don't Change Name

Amid Social And Corporate Pressure, Washington Redskins Consider Name Change

When FedEx sent a letter to the Washington Redskins asking them to change their name, it wasn't just a simple request. According to the Washington Post, FedEx, which owns the naming rights to the team's stadium, threatened to remove signage from FedEx Field if the Redskins did not change their name.

The letter reportedly told the team that their name, which is considered offensive to Native Americans, goes against the company's values, and their affiliation with the organization could have a negative impact on consumers' views of the company. FedEx said they would remove the signage at the end of the 2020 season.

After receiving the two-page letter from FedEx, the Redskins announced they were conducting a "thorough review" of their name. That move coincided with multiple retailers, including Nike, Target, and Amazon, pulling the team's merchandise from their online stores.

The team's owner, Daniel Snyder, has resisted pressure for years to change the name of his name, but it appears he is finally conceding the fight.
