Hall of Fame basketball player Spencer Haywood says he sees "a tinge of slavery" in the way college basketball players are treated. Haywood told "Sporting News" that he thinks there's a racial component to it, pointing out how many teams depend on unpaid black players. He said it's a double-standard because coaches can move from school to school where athletics bring in million of dollars while players are penalized.
Haywood said that full scholarships aren't enough and it "sounds a little like 400 years ago" where slaves were told to do all the work and just got fed in exchange.
